Rome, Italy - October 7, 2018, to Venice, Italy - October 17, 2018
October 7: Rome, Italy
History buffs everywhere love Rome. From the Spanish Steps to the Coliseum, Trevi Fountain to the Sistine Chapel there is never a dull moment in this great, ancient city. Even though there is so much history, don't neglect the amazing food, this is a "foodie cruise" after all. "Rome wasn't built in a day" and you can't see Rome in a day either. Check out our pre cruise options tab to extend your Rome visit.
October 8: Florence/Pisa, Italy
Florence, also known as the gateway to the Renaissance, is the center of the beautiful Tuscan region. From the 13th to 16th centuries, this era of creative freedom encouraged the genius of Dante, Donatello, Michelangelo, Giotto, Botticelli, da Vinci, and Machiavelli to create some of the world’s most noted masterpieces where you can visit many of their work in the many museums here.
October 9: Cruising the Tyrrhenian Sea
Enjoy all the amenities that the Regent Explorer has to offer on your day at sea.
October 10: Amalfi/Positano, Italy
Discover the chic Positano or the charming and picturesque Amalfi coast. Positano's boutiques are known for their locally made cotton. In Amalfi, bring back some unique souvenirs for yourself, or loved ones.
October 11: Taormina (Sicily), Italy
Visit the magnificent island of Sicily, or take a quick transfer to the city of Taormina where you can marvel at the only active volcano in Europe, Mount Etna. Or visit a Roman style Greek theater where acoustics are still appreciated in performances today.
October 12: Corfu, Greece
Corfu is a lush romantic island and the inspiration for Homer's Odyssey. The island’s history is full of battles, indicative of Corfu’s turbulent position that lasted until modern times with unification with modern Greece in 1864. Corfu offers a combination of cosmopolitan and time-honored Greece.
October 13: Kotor, Montenegro
Located in the most secluded part of the Gulf of Kotor, this old port town is surrounded by an impressive, very well preserved, city wall that was built by the House of Nemanjicc. Today, Kotor is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
October 14: Dubrovnik, Croatia
Known as the "Pearl of the Adriatic", Dubrovnik is known worldwide for its unique marble-paved squares, tall houses, steep-cobbled streets, and fountains. The large city walls, once used as protection, now keep motorists at bay. Dubrovnik is also a UNESCO World Heritage site.
October 15: Rijeka, Croatia
The rich history and vibrant culture of Rijeka left its mark. Beginning with Trsat Castle and its magnificent views of Rijeka’s Old City to the bustling Korzo pedestrian promenade with its numerous cafés and bars, this is one of Europe’s hidden treasures.
October 16: Venice, Italy
The "City of Canals" connects over 100 different islands with 150 different canals. Walk the ancient cobblestone streets and visit their many boutiques, glass workshops, and tempting cafes. For those interested in architecture, the original Baroque classics, Basilica San Marco, the Rialto Bridge, the Doge’s Palace, and the Bridge of Sighs can't be missed. Chef Kent Rathbun
You would be hard pressed to find someone whose food journey comes close to that of Chef Rathbun. His fascination with food began at the tender age of 5. When most kids are learning to field a ground ball, he was obsessing over back-of- the- house prep, learning the skills and commitment to excellence that has driven his approach ever since.
He began his professional career as an apprentice at La Bonne Au Berge, a 5-Start French Restaurant in Kansas City. From there he worked under some of the best chefs in the country with stints at Mr. B’s in New Orleans, Kansas City’s American Restaurant and Milano’s, Dallas’ Mansion on Turtle Creek, The Landmark at the Warwick Melrose Hotel.
In 1999 he established Abacus, winning just about every award in sight, including Bon Appetit’s “Best of the Year” and was awarded Four Diamonds by Mobil. Soon after, he added Jaspers to his resume that featured the best of “gourmet backyard cuisine”, and another slew of awards followed. Not content to sit still – anyone whose has been around Kent knows his mind and body are in constant motion – he created a catering operation and his own exclusive line of products, designed for home cooks.
A true Texas legend, Kent is equally well known nationally. From Presidential inaugural balls to the premier events in football and golf, to network TV appearances with the celebrities of every stripe, Kent is one of the country’s “go-to” chefs when the focus is on great food and great times.
Finally, no one has done more for those in need. Kent and his wife Tracy contribute their time and talent to a number of organizations including the American Cancer Society, March of Dimes, Zoo to Do, The North Texas Food Bank and the American Heart Association.
