Galveston Cruise with Carnival Cruise Lines

Did you ever think that you wanted to get away but didn’t want to fly hours to your destination? Perhaps a Galveston cruise is the perfect vacation.  It was a great working vacation for our own Alma Lee.

Alma’s Galveston Cruise with Carnival Cruise Lines

I sailed away on the beautiful Carnival Freedom on September 3 for a wonderful week that included the ports of Cozumel, Belize, and the island of Roatan in Honduras.

One of the great things about cruising is that if you leave from and return to the same port of call, you do not have to have a passport.  While we always recommend a passport, on one of these circle cruises you may use a valid driver’s license and a certified copy of your birth certificate.  This makes it convenient for any last-minute getaways for US citizens.

CozumelOn this particular cruise, I did some minor WORK and then spent the rest of the time enjoying the destinations as you can see from the pictures.

Everyone thinks they know all about Mexico until they visit the Mayan Ruins or travel through a cenote filled with beautiful caverns.  It is no wonder that the Mayans thought the cenotes were inhabited by gods and provided an underground gateway to heaven

BelizeThe country of Belize is very ENGLISH and you can enjoy high tea in the afternoon after some serious shopping and sightseeing.  If you are a photographer, Belize is the country for you.  They have as many Mayan Ruins as Mexico.  The scenery is lush and, oh, yes, they have the Western Hemisphere’s longest barrier reef.  Did you know that cruise ships cannot dock in Belize but you take tenders to reach the shore?  This is to protect the reef.

Roatan - Galveston Cruise on Carnival Cruise Line

Roatan is a small island off the coast of Honduras.  It is a great example of Central America and its wonderful Hispanic heritage.  Carnival puts in at Mahogany Bay dock and Royal Caribbean uses Coxen Hole dock.  Diving, Snorkeling, and lush tropical foliage are the main attractions.  Great shopping here as well including at the only Cameo Factory in the Americas.  You can watch the apprentices of the Cameo Institute carve the cameos out of shells and fine stones.  A visit to the Rum Factory here is a must. They do Rum Cakes and special blends of Hot Sauces that will be great.  Oh, they make Rum here as well……

Another main attraction of cruising is the cruise itself.  You unpack one time and then the ship takes you from one destination to the other.  The cruise ships of today’s cruise lines have become destinations unto themselves.

Carnival Cruise Line - by Fox TravelThere are major water park areas.  Guy Fieri’s Hamburger Dive makes over 1500 burgers a day per ship.  The spa offers services from teeth whitening to hot rock massages.  There is an area for adults only including a pool and whirlpool.
